Morning routines can be a little scary for those who struggle to even wake up in the morning. But once you fell in love with it, it has more to offer than you think.

There is no one fixed morning routine for you to have a cheerful day. But there are a few lifestyle changes, you can make to have a perfect morning routine.

Below is a list of eight tips to have a better morning routine for students to have an amazing day.

1. Sleep tight

Your morning routine starts the night before when you go to sleep.

“Sleep is not taking rest for today. It is preparing yourself for the next day.” So, have a good night’s sleep.

Researchers say that students should have 8 to 10 hours of sleep a day.  A study in 2017 says that irregular sleep patterns may cause low performance in school and other behavioral problems.

You need to sleep at least 7-8 hours a day to maintain good health.

Set an alarm with a mild tone to wake up the next morning before you go to sleep.

2. Wake up and make your bed

The alarm rang the next day and you woke up. Now, get up from the bed and fold your bedsheets and order your bed.

This is the crucial first step towards a cheerful day. It gives you a sense of fulfillment as soon as you wake you.

When you see the made-up bed, you will not again feel to sleep in it.

Many successful people say that making their bed is the first best task of their day. It is not particular to successful people, many households in India train their children to fold their bedsheets as soon as they wake up. It is a really good practice.

3. Freshen up

Splash water in your face. It will give a refreshing feel. I mostly prefer cold water as they are very refreshing.

Drink some water. Have your favorite cup of coffee, tea, or any beverage of your choice.

I prefer coffee. The smell of early morning coffee is a blissful feeling. For some people, coffee helps greatly with their bowel movements.

Sometimes I feel brushing my teeth very refreshing. After tasting the paste, it is kind of hard to sleep again.

Expose yourself to sunlight for 15 minutes at least. You can combine it with exercising or dog walking, etc.

4. Exercise and sweat out

Change into your workout clothes and do a small run or a simple exercise. It pumps the blood flow in your body.

You need not go to the gym to do workouts. There are many YouTube workout videos by trainers and you can follow them.

The simple exercise I said is for lazy people like me. If you are interested in working out, you can do intensive workouts and spend 1 or 2 hours on workouts. It’s totally up to you.

If you can’t run you can walk for at least 30 minutes. But walking at a faster pace is recommended.

There are many options like yoga, cycling, aerobic dance, etc. You can go with the one, you think is best for you.

After every workout, do some stretching to help your body relax.

Make sure you do 3 to 5 minutes of breathing exercises at the end of every workout. It helps you to relax your mind and body.

5. Listen to music

Back in my student days, I had a habit of turning on the radio and listening to songs as soon as I woke up. (Now I use Spotify instead.)

It is soothing to mumble the songs in your mouth and do your morning work. Music helps you to enjoy your work.

A report from the Global Council of Mental Health (GCBH), 2020 based on research conducted by a group of scientists says that music has a positive impact on brain chemicals such as oxytocin and dopamine invoking feelings of pleasure.

The research further states that music reduces stress to some level, elevates your mood, and gives you positive vibes.

Listening to inspirational music helps you work out effectively.

Melodies are always best for the mornings, as they give you a pleasant feeling to start your day. Some researches reveal that music can even have a negative impact when you listen to sad, aggressive songs and lyrics.

Choose your playlist. You can use apps like Spotify. They recommend music based on your past playlist preferences.

6. Do you have a pet/ plant?

If yes, feed them and spend some time with them. Let’s say, if you have a dog, take them for a walk and play with them.

This is a great morning routine to have a cheerful day.

If you have plants water them, clear weeds around them, check for any plant infections or pests, and if needed cut the leaves and stems to boost their growth.

You know you can play soft music around your plants to help them grow. The research conducted by MythBusters, A television show conducted experiments and concluded that plants react to music of any kind.

If you do not have any space to plant plants in your house, go for indoor plants. There are many indoor plants available and you can even order them online.

If you do not have a pet or plant, don’t worry. You can develop some healthy hobbies if you have extra time in the morning.

7. Read something (Anything)

Many older people have the habit of reading newspapers with their morning coffee. You as a student can practice the habit of reading the newspaper daily. It helps to improve your knowledge of various topics around the world.

If you have never read a newspaper. Start by reading the headlines and you will be able to read newspapers faster with time.

In case, you are reading English newspapers, you will have sudoku, crossword puzzle, etc. This is an engaging activity. It will give you a sense of achievement after completing it.

It does not have to be newspapers, read any books. Be it self-help, fiction, or textbooks. It does not matter.

Note: You can even write journals, planning the day. Writing journals help you prepare for the day ahead.

8. Have breakfast

The first meal of the day is a very important meal (not to be skipped). If you take it within 30 minutes of waking up, researchers say it has many health benefits.

You can take small meals like a banana or avocado toast half an hour before working out.

Doctors say that you should have had your morning breakfast within two hours, from the time you woke up. It is effective to boost your body’s metabolism rate.

Morning meal provides the necessary energy to perform the day’s tasks. Skipping meals will hurt your body and mind.

Eat healthy foods with a balanced diet. Do not stay hungry. You know it is bad for your health.

Conclusion

The day is yours and you need not stress yourself out.

You do not have to follow all of the mentioned steps. Just try some at a time and see how it goes. Go with the one that you are comfortable with.

It is okay if you oversleep on some days and skip some routines.

Just stay motivated. (Cheat days are allowed)
